Virginia Lee, 99 of Story City, IA died at Bethany Life Choices in Story City on Thursday, January 9, 2025. Funeral Services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kelley, Iowa on Monday, January 20th at 10:30 AM with Pastor Jesse Peterson officiating. Visitation will be at the church at 9:30 AM.
Virginia Lee was born on July 14, 1925, near Huxley, Iowa to John R. and Anna Bertina Torresdal Sydnes. She was baptized and confirmed at the Hauges Lutheran Church in Slater. A lifelong resident Of Story County, she graduated from High School in 1942 at the age of 16. She worked during World War II years, at a bank in Ames, and married Donald Lee on July 1945 upon his return from the war in Europe. In later years she worked at Iowa State University as a clerk-typist. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, active in the women's group, church council, Sunday School and choir. She was also a 4-H Leader, a member of the VFW Auxiliary and an officer of AAL. She enjoyed her family, farm home, church, reading, baking, and golf.
Four children survived. Clifford (Lois) Lee, Chillicothe, IL; Richard Lee, Evanston, IL; Edward Lee, Cali, Columbia; Janet (Scott) Plathe, Sioux City, IA. Also, five granddaughters, five grandsons, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee in 2002, a son Wayne Donald in 1958, an infant grandson, Edward Olaf Lee Jr. in 1995, and a daughter-in-law, Heidi in 2016. Also, her parents, sisters Beatrice, Flora, Dorothy, Thelma, and LaVonne; and her brother Arnold

Virgina was a special person and special friend. I will miss her. My sympathy to all her family.
It was a wonderful experience to know Don and Virginia. I got to know them when I was active in the VFW. Both were such wonderful people and always treated everyone with respect. There children are also spoken very highly of. I'm happy to have met them both
We loved our time with Virginia at Bethany Life. She was such an amazing lady who always welcomed me with a warm smile. It was an honor to be a part of her journey.
We are remembering the good old days with Don and Virginia as neighbors. Sending condolences to their family as they mourn. They were Salt of the Earth folks. Time to make her kringla though I doubt my version will measure up to hers!
Maro and I thought a lot of Virginia, , happy to spend many Christmas with her at Janet and Scott’s! Enjoyed her phone calls, never short for sure! She was loved by all her familv ! Truly a treasure! Love and prayers for all her family! ❤️
