Phyllis Marie Fisher passed away quietly on January 21, 2016 following complications of heart surgery.
Phyllis was born February 24, 1929 in Dysart, Iowa to Eldon and Esther (Pierce) Leo. The youngest of three sisters, Phyllis was raised on a typical Iowa farmstead.
She attended high school in Dysart in 1947. She loved attending college football games and other sporting events with her father. After high school, she attended Iowa State Teachers College, now University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1951.
Phyllis taught home economics and science at a series of small Iowa high schools, including Fonda, Pleasantville, and Truesdale. She married Charles Fisher on December 3, 1955 in Storm Lake, Iowa and remained happily married for the next 60 years.
Together they had two sons, David Charles and Dennis Scott. Phyllis became a stay-at-home mother and efficient manager of their home when her husband was traveling for his job.
Phyllis enjoyed sewing quilt tops and the resulting beautiful quilts were given to family and friends. She was seldom found without a book at hand and also enjoyed assembling jigsaw puzzles, collecting figurines, and was an avid shopper.
Phyllis is survived by her husband; sons David (Kristine) of San Jose, CA, Dennis (Peggy) of Decatur, IL; beloved granddaughters Erin and Lauren of Decatur, IL; sister Betty of Portland, OR; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Eleanor.
Phyllis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m., January 28, 2016 with a memorial service to follow. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

CandleChuck and family, you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers today and during your time of healing. Although I didn't get to meet Phyllis I will cherish that I got to meet her husband and her children during their visit here at Mercy.

CandleLet us be grateful for people who have touched our lives and brought us joy! Aunt Phyl was one of those people to me. My heart aches at her death, but know she is at peace and in the loving arms of her Heavenly Father.

Phyl believed in cherishing time together. How blessed I am that the last time I saw Chuck & Phyl was last June in CA when the Fisher/Hahn/Rix/Burt families all gathered to celebrate the marriage of David & Kristine. What a great time we had together

Uncle Chuck, you were a faithful partner to Phyl for over 60 years, especially at the end of her life. And while I can't imagine how your heart aches, know that those we love deeply, are a part of us forever.

For all who mourn, may we feel God's love and comfort. My Deepest Sympathy to Uncle Chuck, David & Kristine, Dennis & Peggy, Erin & Lauren, and to my Mom, Betty Hahn, (Phyl's sister) who grieves in Portland, OR.

CandleMy dear Aunt Phyllis was a joy throughout my life - whether as a boy visiting her and Chuck in the summers, as a student at ISU, and at our family's many life events together - births, graduations, weddings. I always admired and enjoyed observing her and Chuck as a couple - so glad they had 60 years together. I miss her already - may she rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to Chuck, David, Dennis and families, and to my Mom and her sister Betty.
