Ronald Glen Marshall was born April 12, 1925 in Madison, Wisconsin. He attended Lincoln Elementary School and Central High, both in Madison. He then graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1949, and subsequently attended George Washington University, Johns Hopkins University, The University of Maryland, and Iowa State University in post-graduate studies in Virology and Microbiology.

In 1950, he married Eileen Marian Hansen, of Madison, Wisconsin. He was assigned to Ft. Detrick in Maryland doing research in biological warfare before transferring to Ames, Iowa in 1962 to work on shipping fever in cattle at The National Animal Disease Laboratories. At Ft. Detrick, he eliminated one step in vaccine production saving great expense for Government and Industry. He worked closely with Walter Reed Medical Center, NIH, and The World Health Organization. Ronald was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and The American Society for Microbiology. He authored several publications on parainfluenza in cattle.

Ronald fought in WWII with the 70th Trailblazer Division in France, where he received the Bronze Star
Medallion under General Patton for heroic achievement.

He had many hobbies including photography, stamp collecting, classical music, world travel, and fishing. He was an avid wine enthusiast as well.

Ronald passed peacefully on February 4th at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Ames; daughters Kim Wedemeier and Terri Friedrich both of Leawood, Kansas; and granddaughters Clarissa Wedemeier of Leawood, Kansas and Heidi Friedrich of Washington D.C.

A graveside service will be held April 11th, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Ames Municipal Cemetery with a reception to follow at the family home. The traditional Marshall Family burial hymn is "Onward Christian Soldiers." Reverend Canon Alexander A. Aiton, Jr. of St Johns by the Campus, Episcopal Parish will officiate. Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established to provide educational assistance to microbiology students.
