Leroy Wolins, 86, of Ames, Iowa, died on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Leroy was born on December 20, 1927 in Youngstown, Ohio. Leroy entered the U.S. Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1947. After service, Leroy attended Ohio State University, where he earned his doctoral degree in psychology.
Leroy and Corinne were married in 1952. Leroy was a professor in the Psychology and Statistics departments of Iowa State University from 1958 to 1989.
Leroy is survived by Corinne and his three children, Deborah, Seth, and Nathan, and three grandchildren, Evan, Ben, and Kayla.
Leroy and I baked bread every Friday evening for many years. As I told Deb earlier, it was a great pleasure to work with Leroy, share a "good" beer at break time and above all enjoy his friendship. Both he and Corinne showed kindness to me and my family. And they taught me to make good bread and run a bakery which I did, some of the best times in my life.
Uncle Leroy was smart, generous, and a great cook. I remember the pizza parties in the 1960s that he and Corrinne had regularly--he made all the pizzas!
Lee was my major professor during my graduate training. He guided me to my current professional career. He was also my friend and my father figure. He was very good to me. I will miss him.
